(All of the campground’s pads are paved.) Beaches are accessible, and ramps are in place to help people access some buildings. The campground offers a few ADA-accessible campsites with paved paths to the bathhouse. A dump station for RVs is on-site, as are trash and recycling options. Lifeguards are on site at some-not all-beach areas. Those who wish to make the most of the nearby ocean can access a boardwalk, boat launch, and pier. Park amenities include a bathhouse with hot showers and flush toilets (unavailable at the adjacent national park). Water and sewer hook-ups are not available at Assateague State Park. Those with RVs will need to be self-contained as the park only offers limited hook-ups (electric in just one loop). The park’s campsites are reasonably spacious but offer almost no shade. ![]() All campsites feature an asphalt pad, picnic table, and fire ring. Youth group campsites are also in the park. The park offers tent campsites as well as RV/trailer campsites. There are 342 campsites at Assateague State Park. The park is popular, so campsites can fill up quickly. The park is renowned for its wild horses (known as Chincoteague ponies) that roam the area, and the campground’s proximity to Assateague Island’s beaches. A popular place to camp, it features primarily drive-in sites, with a handful of walk-in campsites. Camping at Assateague State ParkĪssateague State Park’s season runs from late April to the end of October. Note: Assateague State Park and Assateague Island National Seashore are different parks. Campsites 42-104 are walk-to (tent only) sites (ranging from 100 to 200 feet from the vehicle parking area). Campsites 1-40 (in loops 1 & 2) are drive-in and each has a parking spurs. All are located on or near the sand and beach. The Oceanside Campground can accommodate tents, trailers and RVs. Drive in campsites are also available other times of the year on a first-come, first-serve basis. Campsites can be reserved Mid March through Mid November. There are also 5 group campsites, 6 backcountry and 2 equestrian campsites available.
